A Promo Shoot for the “Van Buren Boys”

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Well I had a fun time doing the promo shots for a band called the “Van Buren Boys.” Most of the members actually went to my high school. We managed to secure our old high schools auditorium as our location, and went from there. Here is a description of the band from their website..it will help you get a feeling for the type of shots we were going for…

“A fun-loving and animated band, the Van Burens strive to make each concert experience unique. Whether hosting a bathrobe dance party, dressing up as Mt. Rushmore, remixing Christmas songs, or rollicking through a set list full of surprises, the VBs make every night a good time.  The band – named after the eighth and greatest President of the United States, Martin Van Buren – began when a high school band reformed post-college and began gigging at bars and house parties, boasting an eclectic catalog of original music and covers and displaying a singular sense of humor. Audiences went wild, and the Van Burens have been busy ever since.  Their first EP, issued in Fall 2009, brings the dance party to your eardrums; just a taste of an exciting, diverse live show.

The VBB have played such big stages as Sullivan Hall, Canal Room, and Bitter End in NYC; The Middle East, Johnny D’s, Baseball Tavern, and Copperfield’s in Boston; and various rooms throughout the greater northeast. The Van Burens are planning a national tour in early 2010 to support the release of their EP.”

I took about 350ish photos and narrowed it down to around 55 that I liked. Here are a few of my favorites, but you can click the link at the bottom to see them all.

Light Leak…good or bad?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Well I had some older negatives (about a month or two old) processed the other day, and finally scanned them on the hasselblad scanner, and one of the images I was most excited for had a light leak at one point during it’s life, making the colors all weird, and a weird orange blob in the middle. I’m not sure if I like it or not though…

President Barack Obama, Martha Coakley, and a few others…

Monday, January 18th, 2010

So I had credentials to go to a rally for Martha Coakley’s campaign. She’s trying to get the open Massachusetts seat in the Senate. A few days ago it was announced that our president, Barack Obama would be attending. This was a great opportunity for me and I’m so glad I got to photograph this event.

Tyler Coste Shoot

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

I did a shoot today out in Sudbury, MA for my friend Tyler. Tyler is a great drummer, and I hear he writes good lyrics as well. He’s endorsed by SJC Custom Drums, which is actually based out of Massachusetts. We wanted to do a few locations, but due to the snow and other things we stuck to just two locations around his house. Here are a few shots… sorry about the watermarks. These were lit with 2 Alienbee AB800’s with various modifiers or bare strobes depending.

You can see a few more on my website here… http://scotteisenphotography.smugmug.com/People/Tyler/

Mighty Mighty Bosstones @ House of Blues

Friday, January 1st, 2010

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are an epic group of guys who play some awesome ska-core music. I have never had the opportunity to shoot them or talk to them till the 28th of December. They had just released their new album (last one came out 7 years ago) and they were having their Annual Holiday Throwdown in Boston. They played a few nights at the HoB and then one night at the Middle East in Cambridge. They were so energetic and happy. Everyone was dancing, Dicky Barrett (lead vocals) was pulling kids on stage, dancing with them, and having them sing a long. I left that concert with a smile. Here are a few photos.

Four Year Strong @ The Palladium

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Well after a ton of problems at the door getting me in, I finally got in at around 9pm to shoot this show. The show started at 6:30. Pretty messed up situation, and the publicist was no help. “Let me fix it, I’ll get back to you”….you know, it’s been probably 5 days and I still haven’t heard back from her! I wonder if she is still fixing the issue? Also, there were so many people in the photo pit who weren’t even shooting for a publication. I may have been one of 3 or 4 photogs in there who were working for something legit. Anyways, here are the photographs of Four Year Strong.

There are more photos in the Music section of my site.
